Cleaning your microwave with Bar Keepers Friend is a great idea. Unfortunately, I and many others never considered it. For me, it was when my little work microwave had an interior stain that vinegar, lemon, or soap couldn’t clean. It wasn’t until I used a little BKF and some elbow grease that I removed the stain.
Cleaning Your Microwave with Bar Keepers Friend
I wipe down my microwave at least once weekly with BKF MORE Spray + Foam cleaner. All you do is set the trigger to the symbol to spray for regular cleaning or foam for deeper cleaning. Spray it on, rub it thoroughly with a cloth or sponge, and then use a soft, dry cloth to wipe it dry. It’s that easy. If it’s a stubborn stain, let the foam sit for a couple of minutes before rubbing it off.
Pro Tip: If you use the foam setting, it will stick to the sides without running off.
You can use either BKF Spray + Foam or the original powdered cleanser to clean your microwave. It depends on your preference. However, I recommend the powder for deeper stains or if your micro-nuke hasn’t been cleaned for a while.
Cleaning Inside Your Microwave with Bar Keepers Friend Powdered Cleanser
Start by making sure the microwave is unplugged and cool.
Dampen a sponge or cloth and sprinkle a small amount of Bar Keepers Friend onto it.
Gently scrub the interior surfaces of the microwave, paying particular attention to any stubborn stains or buildup.
Once you’ve covered all the areas, use a clean, damp cloth to wipe away the cleaner residue.
Finally, thoroughly dry the interior with a dry cloth before plugging the microwave back in.
Always refer to the instructions on the Bar Keepers Friend packaging.
Cleaning the Exterior
Bar Keepers Friend is generally safe on the microwave exterior, including the handle. It removes grease, grime, and stains from various surfaces. However, it’s always best to spot-test on an inconspicuous area first to ensure compatibility with the specific material of your microwave.
You Can Even Clean the Glass Door and the Turntable!
Bar Keepers friend is great on glass. I’ve used it to clean my windows at home!
Make a paste of Bar Keepers Friend Powdered Cleanser and water. Note: You don’t need much. A little bit goes a long way!
Rub it on the glass and then let it sit for two minutes
Next, wipe up the paste with a soft, wet cloth
Shine it clean with a dry rag or paper towel
This should help remove any stubborn stains and grease buildup, leaving your microwave window and turntable clean and sparkling.
Pro Tip: Most manufacturers recommend cleaning your microwave at least once a week. However, if you notice food splatters or spills inside, it’s best to clean it immediately to prevent the buildup of grime and bacteria.
Cleaning your microwave doesn’t have to be drudgery. Cleaning your microwave with Bar Keepers Friend is quick and easy. Let us know if you use BKF on your microwave. And if you do, take some photos, please! We welcome before and after photos. You can upload your photos here.
